Genealogy.com Launches Family Tree Maker 7.5

New Drag & Drop Technology Gives Even More Flexibility in Building Family Trees

April 14, 2000 (FREMONT, CALIFORNIA) — Genealogy.com, LLC, today announced the latest release of its top-selling Family Tree Maker genealogy software, which is sold under the Broderbund brand. Version 7.5 includes some of the most sophisticated yet easy-to-use research tools, and offers a new dimension to building and personalizing family trees with "drag & drop" technology that lets users place boxes, captions, and images exactly where desired. Additionally, Family Tree Maker 7.5 gives users the ability to add explanatory text and photos of different sizes. Family Tree Maker 7.5's 20-CD set includes the FamilyFinder Index, a master index that helps users uncover their family history on CD-ROMs with historical information for more than 220 million people. More than a dozen of these CDs are included in the package to help users jump-start their family tree research: Social Security Death Index, U.S./International Marriage Records Index, Birth Records from the U.S. and Europe, Military Records of U.S. Soldiers, the World Family Tree (European Origins), and the World Family Tree Volumes 1-5. Also included are Local and Family Histories (New England), Family Histories (Mid-Atlantic), Southern Biographies and Genealogies, Land Records, and Boston Passenger Lists. A four-month subscription to GenealogyLibrary.com is also included to enable detailed online research. The combined value of these research resources is $500, yet the street price of Family Tree Maker's 20-CD set is just $80.

Drag and Drop Technology Gives Users More Flexibility Than Ever

The possibilities for customizing a family tree are endless with the new drag and drop technology in Family Tree Maker. It is now very easy to move a single box or an entire branch of a standard ancestor and descendant family tree by simply dragging and dropping the boxes to create customized tree layouts. It's also possible to create more beautiful tree layouts than ever before with new drag and drop images. Add any number of images to standard ancestor and descendant trees and position them anywhere on the page. Images can even be used to create stylish personal borders. Other fun ideas include displaying family photos for different branches of the tree or adding pictures of family crests and heirlooms. Photo albums can now be melded with family trees to preserve a family's history for generations to come.

Users can add captions to standard ancestor and descendant trees to describe family photos or to share the history of a family crest. Link them to family member photos or to stand-alone pictures and then drag and drop them anywhere on the page. Including captions to photos and illustrations is a great way to personalize family trees.
